According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), three neighboring states have recently initiated anti-dumping investigations against steel imports from Vietnam. As a result, Vietnamese exporters may receive 50 percent anti-dumping duties in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The Association noted that the governments of neighboring countries are increasingly using anti-dumping investigations as an instrument of economic war. According to the VSA, most of the steel producers in Vietnam are small and medium-sized companies that are unable to provide serious legal resistance in interstate processes.
The association also calculated that steel has been the most popular commodity in anti-dumping processes over the past 20 years. At the same time, in most cases, Vietnamese companies were recognized as violators of trade rules and were subjected to repression.
In the last week alone, Thailand opened three investigations at once against steel products from Vietnam, the VSA stressed.
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry has warned that the country may face even more anti-dumping lawsuits in the future as Vietnam integrates deeper into the world.
According to VSA, the only way out for the Vietnamese metallurgical industry today is diversification of sales markets.
