AK Steel, a leading US stainless steel producer, welcomes the US Department of Commerce's decision to impose preliminary anti-dumping duties on stainless steel imports from China, India, Italy and South Korea.
In particular, a duty of 235.66 percent was introduced against Chinese steel, including on steel products from Baoshan Iron & Steel Co and Handan Iron & Steel Group.
“AK Steel is happy that the Commerce Department has published a preliminary decision that imports from some countries are unfairly subsidized by the government. This definition is an important step in ensuring that our foreign competitors comply with fair trade rules, ”said James L. Winescott, President and CEO of AK Steel.
He stressed that the American steel industry suffered significant losses in sales and profits due to unfair imports from other countries.
The Department of Commerce has launched an investigation into the dumping of corrosion-resistant steel in the US market following a complaint from US Steel Corporation, Nucor Corporation, US ArcelorMittal and AK Steel Corporation. The final decision will be made by the Ministry of Trade before January 18, 2016.
American manufacturers also complained about suppliers from Taiwan, but the Department of Commerce has so far decided not to impose duties on metal products from this country.
