According to Yevgeny Khainatsky, Director of Style Avia, Ukraine should not refuse flights to Egypt, even if the security level at the country's airports allows for a terrorist attack on an aircraft.
“What happened (with a Russian airliner in Egypt) could have happened in any country and city where the level of security for handling aircraft and passengers is not at a high level. We can also successfully close most of the airports in Ukraine, where the level of security leaves much to be desired, ”he said in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
According to the director of the airline, if flights to Egypt are suspended, following the example of Great Britain, Germany, Russia and a number of other countries, a wave of bankruptcies among tour operators will sweep in Ukraine, and the airlines themselves will incur significant losses.
“The main winter tourist flow is Egypt. There is nothing to replace in the price category, all warm resorts are much more expensive, there will be a collapse, ”stated Khainatsky.
To reduce the risk, Ukrainian airlines need only strengthen security control in Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, the expert said.
On November 7, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the Ministry of Infrastructure to consider the feasibility of suspending flights to Egypt, but so far no decision has been made.
US airlines do not intend to stop flights to Egypt. According to the White House, Washington is introducing additional measures to screen baggage and airports for cooperation "with foreign partners."
Earlier it was reported that on October 31, the Airbus A321 airliner of the Russian airline Kogalymavia, which was flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, crashed on the Sinai Peninsula. According to one of the versions, the cause of the plane crash was the explosion of a bomb on board the plane. All 217 passengers and seven crew members were killed.
