Yuriy Vitrenko, Business Development Director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, said that Ukraine simply does not need Gazprom's gas, especially when it is banally more expensive than European gas.
“In the near future, the priority for us will be the purchase of gas in Europe using the EBRD loan,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“I can say that we have an absolutely normal level of gas in underground storage facilities and there is every opportunity to diversify gas supplies,” the official said.
During a cabinet meeting, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed Naftogaz to stop gas purchases from the Russian Federation.
“The government made a decision to instruct Naftogaz to stop the purchase of Russian gas, otherwise they confused it, it is not they who supply us with gas, we don’t buy gas from them,” the prime minister said.
Earlier it was reported that Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Ukraine due to the lack of advance payment.
