Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Lenin mastered the production of rolled steel grades S355M and S355MC

In October, the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant (MMK) named after Ilyich of the Metinvest Group of Rinat Akhmetova began production of a roll of the S355MC brand, produced according to the European industry standard EN10149-2. Such steel is used for the production of cold-formed and cold-formed products for the machine-building industry. Rolled steel S355MC has improved cold forming performance, which allows the production of complex shaped parts without the risk of cracking and does not use preheating. This steel is suitable for all modern types of cutting, including laser cutting.

In November, at the MMK im. Ilyich, the production of a hot-rolled coil of steel grade S355M according to (DSTU) EN10025-4 was established, which is used for the manufacture of closed profiles, metal structures for construction and road fences. By using high-strength rolled steel grade S355M instead of St3 or its European analogue S235JR, the refiner saves up to 34 percent of steel, and the bearing capacity of the structure remains unchanged. After welding, there is no need to subject the near-weld zone to additional heat treatment - new steel does not crack, since it has high ductility. Thanks to the same quality, S355M rolled products are well maintained at low temperatures.

The first 150 tons of new products have been shipped to Poland and Slovakia, and orders for December production have already been received. S355M and S355MC brands will also be in demand by domestic converters who are striving to improve their efficiency and reduce costs.

Metinvest is developing its product mix, constantly increasing the share of high value-added products. The company continues to develop high-strength rolled steel for mechanical engineering and construction - in the near future, new steel grades S420M and S420MC will be launched on the market. At the same time, rolled products up to S460M can already be ordered from the European enterprises of the company.
