Young scientists of the South Ural State University (SUSU) won the competition for participants in the youth scientific and innovative competition "U.M.N.I.K." As told in the State TV and Radio Company "South Ural", the guys distinguished themselves in the direction of "Modern materials and technology for their creation." Their ideas can significantly increase the efficiency of domestic production, according to the press service of the university.
Assistant of the Department of Metallurgy and Foundry Semyon Salikhov has developed a scheme according to which in one stage two finished products can be obtained from siderite at once - finished steel and high-magnesium slag, which is widely used in the refractory industry. The second winner of the competition, Ranil Gabbasov, a 1st year master's student of the same department, figured out how to improve the quality of casting from intermetallic alloys used at aviation engine-building enterprises. The alloy has prospects for use in space propulsion engineering; it can also be used as a material for compressor blades of a promising fifth-generation PD-14 aircraft engine, which was recently presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin in Nizhny Tagil.
Now the winning scientists will be able to conclude a state contract with the Foundation for Assistance to the Development of Small Forms of Enterprises in the Scientific and Technical Sphere in the amount of 400 thousand rubles.
