India has imposed anti-dumping duties for a period of five years on flat cold rolled stainless steel from China, the European Union, the United States, South Korea, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand. Import duties are set at 4.6 - 57.4 percent, depending on the manufacturer.
The decision comes in response to complaints from Indian stainless steel producers Steel Authority of India, JSW Steel and Essar Steel.
Industry experts believe that the duties are unlikely to have a significant effect, since they are imposed on a certain cut of the sheet.
“In the long term, the government’s decision will be ineffective if the width restrictions are not removed,” said NK Matur, President of the Indian Association of Stainless Steel Producers.
Earlier in September, Indian authorities imposed a 20 percent duty on imports of hot and cold rolled steel.
Today it became known that India will continue to investigate the dumping of sheet steel up to 150 mm thick and over 600 mm wide.
