The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU ignores the geopolitical situation in Ukraine and its ties with Russia. This agreement is more than just a trade agreement. The agreement is a global political dynamite, experts say.
Crisis-ridden Ukraine is unlikely to benefit from this agreement. Ukraine not only in the oil and gas sector depends on cooperation with Russia, but also in all foreign trade. From January 1, the free trade agreement will be suspended in response to the agreement with the EU. And thus, all of Ukraine's hopes will be directed towards the EU.
But the EU cornucopia has long been empty. Now the union is a club of states desperately struggling with budget deficits. A recent attempt to help Greece has failed miserably. And Ukraine from the new year will feel the current reality of the EU: the state budget must be balanced, which makes no sense for a devastated country. Laws must comply with EU principles, but this requirement does not sound serious given the fight against corruption as a coping strategy for the country.
Ukraine needs investment and reinvestment. The asceticism of EU policy, combined with regulation in almost all areas of life, even in stable and wealthy countries, has been acting as a brake on investment for many years. A shattered Ukraine cannot afford such an existence, and the EU is not ready to support it forever.
The EU is no longer "just" an economic community, but also provides for military cooperation, including the possible entry of Ukraine into NATO, which Russia sees as an intensification of the military confrontation with Moscow. Consequently, the flirtation of Ukrainian politics with the Western military alliance poses a huge threat to the already fragile peace on our planet.
EU policy in Ukraine poses a threat to the world
