Steel production in the CIS countries decreased slightly in November 2015

Crude steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) declined slightly by almost 1.7 percent during November 2015. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan reported declines in production during the month.

The total steel production in Belarus decreased by 8.4 percent in November this year to 214 thousand tons from 234 thousand tons in November 2014. Kazakhstan produced 288 thousand tons of steel, which is 4.8 percent less compared to 302 thousand tons of products achieved in November last year. Moldova recorded 44 thousand tons of steel production during the month, significantly increasing output by 120 percent over the previous year. The total volume of steel production in Russia decreased by 3.1 percent compared to 5,896 thousand. tons in November 2014 to 5715 thousand tons in November this year.

There was an increase in steel production in Ukraine during November. Total steel production in Ukraine increased by 3.1 percent to 1,884,000 tonnes in November 2015, compared with an output of 1,828,000 tonnes in November last year. On the other hand, Uzbekistan's steel output dropped significantly by 9.1 percent during the month.

Cumulative steel production in the first eleven months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014, in thousand tons: Belarus 2,415 - 2,289 (+ 5.5%); Kazakhstan - 3274 (-3.8%), Moldova - 400 (+ 23.9%); Russia - 65164 (-0.2%); Ukraine - 21033 (-16.8%); Uzbekistan - 597 (-12.5%).
