Carrier Pegas announced that it will continue flights to Russia after resolving visa problems for its flight personnel. The company suspended flights from 4 to 13 January after it failed to receive a positive response from Russia regarding visas for its crew members.
"The issue of visas for our crews for Russian flights has now been resolved thanks to close cooperation and coordination of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Embassy in Ankara," the company said in a January 15 written statement.
The company noted that flights to Russia, which were suspended on January 4, resumed from January 15. Pegasus flies low cost direct flights to Moscow and Krasnodar to Russia from Sabih Istanbul. Since Turkey shot down a Russian plane on November 24, 2015, Moscow imposed a series of economic and trade sanctions against Turkey and ended visa-free travel between countries starting January 1, which caused problems for the Turkish carrier.
