Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak does not exclude a partial continuation of gas supplies to Europe through Ukraine even after the introduction of Nord Stream 2, as he said in an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt.
“We do not exclude that some volumes of gas supplies will be carried out through the territory of Ukraine. The question is about the economic feasibility of transportation through certain pipelines. Alternative supply routes will create competition and lower transportation costs for European customers. If the country is a monopoly on gas transportation, then it affects the price. Ukraine has already announced a multiple increase in the cost of gas transit, ”Novak said. With the introduction of Nord Stream 2, the situation for Ukraine will change and it will have to compete with other systems for supplying gas to Europe.
According to the minister, at present, politics continues to prevail over the economic aspects of the supply of gas and oil.
