Coking coal prices have clearly increased in recent weeks. Quotes as of August 5 this year for a tonne of FOB Australia coking coal reached $ 100. This is the highest figure in the last 16 months, that is, since March 2015.
This significant price increase has been achieved since November 2015, when the Australian hard coking coal premium price fell below $ 80 per tonne. The current prices are already above the established criteria.
“The benchmark for coking coal in the third quarter of 2016 was set at $ 92 per ton,” experts said. This increase was projected up from $ 84 per tonne in the second quarter of this year. The rise in prices for coke and thermal coal is also possible for small and medium consumers.
