The construction industry needs to increase the range of rolled metal products

During the last International Metallurgical Forum "Science and Innovations" the Executive Director of the USCC Vyacheslav Kolesnik spoke about the needs of the Ukrainian construction market in a wide range of rolled metal products.

Speaking to the forum participants, Vyacheslav Kolesnik said that today the share of imports in the segment of polymer-coated steel is 92% ($ 255 million), galvanized steel - 47% ($ 95 million). At the same time, the speaker noted that today in Ukraine there is practically no quality control system for products made of coated sheet steel, which creates additional problems for bona fide manufacturers of roofing and facade steel products.

According to the head of USCC, for sustainable development, the domestic construction industry needs shaped and round pipes of large diameters, as well as a wide range of rolled beams with parallel flanges.

“The most important for the steel construction market is the introduction of the following nomenclature of rolled profiles: wide-flanged beams HEA and HEB with a wall height of up to 300 mm, UPN channels up to 240 mm and European corners up to 110 mm, which will cover up to 60% of the demand for construction mix,” he said Vyacheslav Kolesnik. - The presence of such rolled products in the range of Ukrainian metallurgists will improve the quality and reduce the cost of metal structures, as well as increase the productivity and export potential of domestic manufacturers of metal structures.

According to the USCC experts, given the positive trends in the economy, the growth of competencies in the field of steel construction and acceptable domestic prices for steel, the potential for the production of building metal structures can be 7 times higher than the existing one.
