The Russian metallurgical and mining group Industrial Metallurgical Holding is promoting the expansion of new coking coal and iron ore deposits and expanding pig iron production, assuring the market that it will continue to supply a commercial product.
Tula Steel will consume pig iron as steel production will begin later this year. Sales of commercial pig iron will amount to about 2 million tons per year after 2018 from about 2.2 million tons per year, said Sergey Frolov, vice president for strategy and communications of the Industrial Metallurgical Holding, at the presentation.
Growth in coking coal concentrate production at mines could help supply coke to improve pig iron productivity at a modernized blast furnace facility in Tula, in western Russia, Frolov said.
The new project Tulskaya Steel with a capacity of 1.8 million tons is planned to produce reinforcing rods by investing in rolling mills, ladle furnaces and other units for processing steel from cast iron supplied by Tulachermet.
Rebar production can be maximized at the Tula Metallurgical Company to allow the new metallurgical plant to reach its planned capacity as additional lines are introduced.
