Results of Ukraine on the production and consumption of rolled metal products for 10 months

During January-October 2017, Ukraine produced 15.15 million tons of rolled metal, which is 15% lower than the corresponding last year's results. According to ETR-SPECTR LLC, during this period, exports reached 11.86 million tons, which is 78.3% of the total. Then, as for 10 months of 2016, exports were at the level of 84.1%.

There were changes in the export structure in 2017 compared to 2016, so the share of semi-finished products was 44%, and in 2017 it exceeded 40%. Exports of flat products increased to 35% in 10 months of 2017 compared to 28.9% in 2016, while the share of long products decreased to 24.5% in 2017 from 27.0% in 2016. The changes were caused by the loss of one of the main producers of Ukrainian long products in March 2017, namely PJSC Yenakiyevo Metallurgical Plant, which is located in the territory not controlled by Kiev.

The main export destinations for Ukrainian metal products are the markets of the European Union - 32% of exports, the Middle East - 14.8% and other European countries, including Turkey - 14.6%.

At the same time, the consumption of rolled metal products in Ukraine during 10 months of 2017 reached 4.37 million tons, which is 18% higher compared to the same period in 2016. Of the total consumption, 1.08 million tons or 24.7% were imported. For 10 months of 2017 relative to the same period in 2016, imports of rolled metal products increased by 0.2 million tons, or 23.4%.

45% of imports of metal products come from the CIS, 26% from Asia and 25% from the EU.
