High quality ductile iron production is on the rise

Ductile iron is a casting material with a very wide range of uses. This is due to a very large change in mechanical properties depending on the number and size of particles, as well as on the type of matrix. In recent years, the production of high quality cast iron has been growing all over the world.

To ensure the required chemical composition of the initial cast iron for spheroidization treatment, the most important element of the technology is the introduction of Mg or its alloys into the liquid metal. The melting and boiling points of magnesium are 650 C and 1107 C, respectively; therefore, the magnesium introduced into the molten iron intensively melts, evaporates and ignites.

Over the years of using magnesium as an intermediate in the production of ductile iron, a number of methods have been developed for its introduction into liquid metal. The desire to eliminate the harmful phenomena observed with the introduction of magnesium into the metal contributes to the development of new methods for the introduction of this element into cast iron.
