In 2017, Zaporizhstal shipped over 573 thousand tons of rolled metal by water. Thus, 17 percent of the total volume of metal products produced by the plant was sent by water to Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Turkey. The use of water transport allows the plant to reduce logistics costs.
The general director of the plant Rostislav Shurma commented: “Water transport is the most efficient way of delivering finished products to the customer, so one third of all Zaporizhstal export is sent to the consumer by water. We strive to use all the logistics advantages of the region of presence in order to strengthen our competitive position in the markets. In 2017, we opened new directions - Georgia, Serbia - and the delivery of products to customers in Macedonia along the Danube River. "
In 2017, navigation lasted from March 10 to December 20, which covered a period of just over 9 months. The mill implemented a solution for horizontal shipment of hot-rolled coils, which minimized the negative impact on rolled metal products, and also reduced the transshipment cost by $ 0.50 per tonne.
Last year, the plant delivered about 540 thousand tons of products by water transport. The Zaporizhstal plant renewed its strategic partnership contract with the Zaporizhzhya river port 6 years ago, in October 2012. Since then, the river port has dispatched over 3 million tons of rolled metal.
