After an acute shortage of scrap metal at Ukrainian factories, the country increased the export duty on scrap metal from 10 euros per tonne to 30 euros per tonne in 2016.
Export duty revenues for scrap metal have almost tripled in Ukraine over the past year. Meanwhile, the deficit of scrap metal at the country's metallurgical plants decreased by almost 40%, which obviously indicates an improvement in the availability of domestic scrap at local plants. The estimated shortage of scrap metal has decreased from 725,000 tons to 425,000 tons.
According to data released by the head of the parliamentary committee on industry Viktor Khalasyuk, revenue rose sharply from $ 4.1 million. USA to USD 12.6 million USA. He attributed the huge jump in revenue to the success of the country's metallurgical law. In addition, Halasyuk called for a further expansion of the export duty on exports.
After an acute shortage of scrap metal at domestic factories, the country increased the export duty on scrap metal from € 10 per tonne to € 30 per tonne in 2016. Accordingly, the Ukrainian parliament adopted this as a law. Although a bill was approved last April that would provide higher fees for another two years, the president vetoed it, cutting the extension period to one year. The country is currently levying higher duties on shipments of scrap metal outside the country. The law is due to be reviewed next year.
