Turkey's steel production rose 7.6 percent to 3.17 million tonnes in January, compared to the same month in 2017, according to the World Steel Association. The report showed that Turkey's production in January 2017 amounted to 2.95 million tons.
In January, the 64-country association's total steel production was 139.44 million tonnes, up 0.8 percent from 138.27 million tonnes in January 2017, the association said on February 26.
China produced almost half of the world's steel with 67 million tons per month. Its production fell 0.9 percent in January compared to the same month last year.
Then Japan and India with 9 million tons, the USA - 6.8 million tons, South Korea - 6.1 million tons.
Among the EU countries, Germany had the highest steel production - 3.7 million tons.
The countries' steel utilization rate stood at 70 percent in January, down 0.2 percentage points from January 2017.
Members of the World Steel Association provide nearly 85 percent of the world's steel production.
