Damage from Trump's tariffs for Ukraine will amount to more than $ 100 million a year

In the past, Ukrainian metallurgists supplied to the United States about 1.3 million tons of pig iron and about 200 thousand tons of rolled products. The share of rolled steel amounted to 1.3% of the total export of Ukrainian metal products. It was a promising market where exports from Ukraine could grow.

The main problem is not only the closure of the American market, but also how other markets to which Ukrainian products are supplied may react to the US decision. The fact is that about 46% of all Ukrainian exports are supplied to the EU and Turkey markets. And the countries of the European Union and Turkey supply a fairly large volume of products to the United States. If now they are subject to this duty, they will look for alternative ways of selling their metal products or will sell their products on the domestic market, then they will resort to various mechanisms to protect their markets. In addition, they will supply their products to traditional Ukrainian markets, North Africa, the Middle and Far East.

Now Ukrainian metallurgists are considering a procedure according to which we will appeal to the United States and prove that we have come under the duties as a country to which these measures should not apply.

Ukraine may suffer to a lesser extent than the same Turkey and the EU, but the general disruption of these steel flows will lead to the fact that the EU and Turkey will tighten their policies regarding the import of Ukrainian products to their markets. Ukraine needs comprehensive work not only in relation to the US market, but also in relation to all markets, both existing and promising for Ukrainian steel products.

According to experts, the damage to Ukrainian metallurgists as a result of these duties for Ukrainian producers will amount to more than $ 100 million per year, but Metinvest and Interpipe will suffer the most.
