European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker believes the May 1 deadline set by the United States for the EU to negotiate trade relations with the United States is unrealistic.
At a summit in Brussels, EU leaders called on the US to permanently exclude the European Community from the new tariffs on steel and aluminum, which took effect on Friday. At the moment, the EU has a temporary exemption - it will apply until May 1. Washington expects that by this time a trade agreement with the EU countries will be reached.
In addition to the EU, metal producers in Australia, Argentina, South Korea and Brazil were exempted from customs duties on Thursday. Trump initially said that only Canada and Mexico were excluded.
Along with this, on Thursday, US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum that will impose trade sanctions against China, including repression and investment restrictions. The tariffs to be imposed on Chinese exports will amount to $ 50 billion.
