Zaporizhstal completed the ecological modernization of the sinter plant

Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group completed an important environmental project - modernization of gas cleaning systems of sintering machines No. 1-6. Investments in the project amounted to more than UAH 1.2 billion.

“We have reconstructed the gas cleaning systems of sintering machines No. 1-6 successively since 2012, in the conditions of existing production. During the development and implementation of the project, the most modern world experience was followed: 95% of the gas cleaning systems installed at modern metallurgical enterprises in China, Japan, the USA and Europe are bag filters, which are the most effective cleaning method. It is this technology that has also been applied at the gas treatment plants of the Zaporizhstal sinter plant, - noted the General Director of the plant Rostislav Shurma.

In April 2018, the plant fully completed the modernization of the gas cleaning systems of sintering machines No. 1-6, providing air purification from dust - up to 30 mg /m3, for sulfur dioxide - below 400 mg /m3, which complies with European emission standards, and also allows to gradually reduce the discharge sludge water from the sinter shop's circulating cycle.

“The new gas cleaning systems of the sinter plant will reduce dust emissions by 90% and sulfur oxide emissions by 50%. The implementation of this solution allowed the company to fulfill its obligations to reduce the technogenic load on the region. For Zaporizhstal, this is a 100% ecological project, in which there is no economic component, "Rostislav Shurma emphasized.

In the technology of air purification with bag filters, an exhauster is used, which provides both air supply to the sintering machine for sintering the agglomerate, and further transportation of contaminated air to bag filters. The process is structured in such a way that turning off the exhauster will lead to a halt in sinter production and production losses. Stopping gas cleaning is possible only if the entire sinter machine is stopped for maintenance.

The automated control system for the technological process of the sinter plant completely excludes the human factor. Operators in the control room of the sinter plant perform exclusively a control and monitoring function. For this purpose, the specialists of the service for monitoring and control of the sinter plant's gas purifiers underwent specialized training in the standards of work on new environmental equipment.

Each sinter machine is equipped with emission control sensors, which in online mode, with a resolution of milliseconds, show the efficiency of the gas cleaning equipment. The online monitoring system is not only a control of the final concentration of emissions of harmful substances at the outlet to the atmosphere, but also the possibility of operational control of the cleaning process, which ensures the reliability and efficiency of the gas cleaning equipment operation�
