Vietnam imported over 4.2 million tonnes of steel and pig iron for a total of about $ 3 billion between January and April, up 24.6% from 6.4% year-over-year, according to data General Directorate of Customs of Vietnam.
In four months, all steel mills in Vietnam produced 3.2 million tons of products, up 8.8 percent from last year. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese market consumed nearly 3.1 million tonnes of steel products, up 12.9 percent, the Vietnam Steel Association said.
Vietnam spent over US $ 9 billion last year, importing about 15 million tonnes of steel and iron last year, with China being the largest market with nearly 7 million tonnes of products totaling US $ 4.1 billion, followed by Japan and the South. Korea, according to the department.
