According to the management of ArcelorMittal, the takeover of Ilva does not mean the marginalization of Polish factories, but it will have a positive impact on the development of the rolled metal segment in Poland. Some buyers are also hoping to lower the price of the product.
The Ilva acquisition is a profitable deal for Poland, making Krakow extremely important to the group, said a board member of ArcelorMittal Poland.
The concern takes over the largest integrated steel mill in Europe with five large furnaces and a production capacity of 6 million tonnes of steel.
The agreement to acquire Ilva was due to the sale of a number of factories to AM, including a metallurgical plant in the Czech Republic and Romania, and a rolling mill in Skopje. These are mainly enterprises related to the production of hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel. For Poland, this means, first of all, development in the segment of flat products, suggesting that the company in Poland will try to “compensate” for the loss of production capacity associated with the sale of plants in this segment in Europe.
ArcelorMittal's acquisition of Ilva will benefit Poland
