The Azovstal metallurgical plant stopped converter # 2 for an eight-hour scheduled preventive maintenance to carry out maintenance work on the gas cleaning equipment.
As part of the short-term repairs, the design parameters of the environmental systems will be restored, the air ducts will be cleaned and other standard procedures for the maintenance of gas cleaning equipment will be carried out. A month earlier, converter # 2 was also stopped for repairs to revise technological equipment, sensors and automated systems, as well as replace a number of units.
As a reminder, over the next four years, Metinvest Group will allocate more than $ 300 million for environmental projects as part of the Mariupol Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Program.
General Director of Azovstal Iron and Steel Works Enver Tskitishvili:
- Preventive maintenance is important to maintain trouble-free operation of the mill. Already in September we are starting a large-scale overhaul of the first converter. This project is directly related to our commitment to improve the environmental situation in Mariupol. Thus, the enterprise will only melt steel in one converter. And it’s important to make sure that everything will work stably. First of all, gas cleaning equipment. At the same time, we continue to design completely new aspiration systems, which will reduce the emissions of converter production to the promising standards.
