The increase in imports mainly concerns rails, profiles, wire rods, rebar and, to a lesser extent, pipes. Imported products include, among others, products from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Turkey.
For example, in the first quarter of this year, more than 360,000 tons of steel arrived in Poland from Russia, and more than half of all imported goods last year from this country. Imports from Ukraine increased by 15 percent, from Belarus - by 43 percent. In addition, increased amounts of steel went to Poland, including from India, China and Taiwan.
According to experts, the increase in imports is due to the 25% duty on steel products imposed by the United States. Although the obligations were announced and partially came into effect in March, and from June 1 in Canada, Mexico and the EU, experts believe that the transition to other markets, including Poland, - some of the steel sent to the US market, has still begun earlier.
