The technical condition of blast furnace No. 3 at the Arcelor Mittal Poland metallurgical plant in D Домbrowa threatens the health and lives of employees. Since tragedies may continue in the future, trade unions are sounding the alarm. According to the company, there is no threat and union activists base their statements not on facts, but on impressions.
On June 21, 2018, one of the blast furnace No. 3 units exploded. In March, there was a similar failure in the same place. In both cases, the employer did not take appropriate action in our assessment to eliminate this threat, and it does appear that he is trying to hide information from the unions about the actual technical condition of the blast furnace.
Meanwhile, we are talking about a situation where a powerful explosion can threaten the health and life of employees. In addition, with each such event, huge amounts of harmful gases and dust enter the atmosphere, which is also a direct threat to the health of the residents of D Домbrow Gornicz, said the chairman of trade unions at ArcelorMittal Poland.
On 4 July, unions operating in all branches of Arcelor Mittal Poland adopted a common position in which they demanded that the employer take decisive action in connection with repeated failures of the blast furnace.
