Turkey's steel production in the first five months of this year rose 4.3 percent to 15.9 million tonnes, the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD) said on Saturday.
In May, Turkey's steel production rose 0.5 percent year-on-year to 3.3 million tonnes.
Turkish steel exports fell 3.9 percent annually to 8.1 million tonnes in the first five months of 2018. The value of steel exports during this period increased by 20.2 percent and amounted to $ 6.7 billion.
Over the same period, Turkey's steel imports increased 18 percent to 7.5 million tons per year, while the value of imports increased 35 percent to $ 6.2 billion.
Turkey's steel product exports in June rose 34 percent to $ 1.2 billion in June.
Gazi Bilgin, acting secretary general of TCUD, told Anadolu news agency that US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and cast iron affected Turkey's exports.
After Trump's controversial decision, steel exports in the country fell 30 percent to $ 71.5 million in June and also fell 42 percent to $ 421 million in the first six months of this year.
