Outstanding production facilities in metallurgy are named and identified as leaders in the technologies of the "fourth industrial revolution". Tata Steel's steel plant in Ijmeiden, The Netherlands is one of them.
IJmuiden uses advanced analytics to optimize the use of raw materials and increase productivity at various stages of the steelmaking process. The use of analytics has led to significant improvements in product quality. The plant also houses the best-in-class logistics facilities. Leveraging technology throughout the value chain has helped the enterprise gain a competitive edge.
Han Fischer, CEO of Tata Steel-Europe, said the company is honored to be recognized by the WEF. He is dedicated to achieving the vision of the analyst team, innovative thinking and the dedication of his employees.
The remaining six new beacons are the BMW Group's Regensburg plant in Germany; Danfoss commercial compressor plant in Tianjin, China; Foxconn in Shenzhen, China; Rold in Cerro Maggoria, Italy; Sandvik Coromant in Gimo, Sweden, and Saudi Aramco's Uthmaniya gas plant in Saudi Arabia.
The Lighthouse program was designed to promote the adoption of cutting edge technology in industry and manufacturing facilities. This creates a common platform that allows participants to share knowledge.
