ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih supported the initiatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine

Top managers of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih met at the end of July with Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and recently held talks with representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, discussing the possibilities of improving the environmental situation and introducing social projects in Kryvyi Rih. As a result, the parties agreed on five steps.

First. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will continue the global modernization of the enterprise - in the next five years, investments will amount to more than $ 1.8 billion, which will reduce air emissions by 50-55%. In particular, large-scale investment projects will be implemented in the sinter production, which accounts for about 2/3 of all emissions from the metallurgical plant. Reconstruction of sinter plant No. 2 and construction of a pelletizing plant will allow the closure of outdated sinter plants.

In addition, the company has prepared a plan of short-term initiatives to reduce the burden on the environment following the visit of the head of state to Krivoy Rog on 12 July. The plan was personally conveyed to the President of Ukraine during the meeting; it provides for a reduction in atmospheric emissions by 10-15% in the next few months (the company will tell you more about it later).

Second. The company got the opportunity to continue the implementation of the investment project for the construction of a complex for the continuous casting department (CCM-2,3). In particular, commissioning works were restored, which were stopped after the SBU officers conducted a search on July 20 as part of the investigation of a criminal case under Article 441 of the Criminal Code (“Ecocide”).

Third. The company also plans to actively work with the Government of Ukraine on corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. One of the main directions will be health care, namely, improving conditions for the prevention and treatment of citizens, including the development of the sphere of medical services in Krivoy Rog. The company supported the initiative of the Office of the President of Ukraine to create a Health Fund in Kryvyi Rih, which will be formed with the participation of various enterprises in the region. The Fund's funds are planned to be invested in the development of the city's medical base. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is ready to become one of the participants in this pool of enterprises and contribute UAH 100 million a year.

Fourth. As part of CSR and the development of sports in the city, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will take part in the overhaul (renovation) of the Metallurg stadium in Kryvyi Rih. The company will invest UAH 50 million in this project: UAH 25 million each - in 2019 and 2020.

Fifth. The Office of the President has also expressed interest in the construction of new concrete roads in the country using metallurgical slags. This will allow creating high-quality infrastructure in the regions and unloading slag dumps at metallurgical facilities�
