The South African Arbitration Tribunal unconditionally approved the acquisition by ArcelorMittal in South Africa of Highveld Structural Mill (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium.
The Commission's investigation showed that there would be no anti-competitive consequences as a result of the merger. He recommended that the merger be approved and that it would benefit the public interest.
HSM is the only company capable of producing heavy sections in South Africa. He works at the eMalahleni plant in Mpumalanga. HSM went to revenues in April 2015 and ceased production due to weakening global markets and reduced domestic demand for steel, among other factors. In 2017, HSM resumed limited production of heavy sections.
