As of mid-February, most of the rolled metal traders and steelmakers in Xinjiang had not yet returned to work. The two main steel markets in Urumqi were also not yet officially open for business and all steel markets were closed.
Many obstacles to road and rail transport affected the supply of steel mills in Xinjiang. Inventories have accelerated and steel mills can only suspend or further curtail production.
It is understood that construction steel production at the eight major steel mills in Xinjiang is currently in incomplete or suspended production. For example, Kunlun Iron and Steel plans to close production and begin maintenance, which is expected to last about 45 days.
