Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine is evaluating which types of production activities can be continued, cut back or stopped due to the spread of the coronavirus. He said: “The health of our employees is of the utmost importance to voestalpine. The company began to take action appropriate to the situation immediately after the outbreak of the coronavirus in China, developing recommended action plans for its employees, suppliers and partners. They are reviewed and adjusted on an ongoing basis. In addition, a wide range of communication measures provide the global workforce with comprehensive information that is updated daily. All measures are closely coordinated with government agencies and comply with applicable regulations. voestalpine is in constant contact with the authorities and the labor council and assesses the situation on a daily basis. All relevant Group divisions are represented in the Corona Task Force, which is in constant coordination with the Chairman of the Management Board of voestalpine AG. "
It states: “In the past few days, most countries, especially Austria, where voestalpine AG is headquartered, have taken strict measures to spread the disease as quickly as possible. voestalpine wholeheartedly supports these legislative measures. Many Voestalpine employees already work from home, where work conditions permit. The ability to work from home will be expanded in the coming days to cover all companies in the group. ”
He added: “As a manufacturing company, voestalpine also has many facilities that cannot operate unless the staff is physically present. We are currently investigating which production sites can continue to operate in accordance with all legal regulations, and which will have to significantly reduce the volume of operations or even be completely closed. Employees in manufacturing, maintenance, and other operational critical areas will continue to work onsite until further notice. Here, the highest priority will be given to safety measures designed to protect health and maintain hygiene. "
