ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih starts the preparatory phase of construction of the new Stepnoy-2 dump. This dump provides for the storage of oxidized ore, together with magnetite ore is mined in the quarry No. 3 of the enterprise.
Stepnoy-2 will be located on the slopes of the top of the Dyakov gully (without occupying it) with the formation of the northern and southern sections of the dump, which are interconnected by a dam. For oxidized quartzites, this will be temporary storage - after the development of technologies and the commissioning of capacities for their processing, this iron ore raw material will be used for the production of concentrate. Back in 2018, the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine issued a special permit to ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih to process oxidized ore for a period until 2038.
The land plot for the construction of the facility will occupy 271.2 hectares. The object itself will be multi-tiered. There are four tiers in the southern section, and six in the north. The total capacity of the dump will be 51,380,000 cubic meters.
Based on engineering-geological and topogeodetic studies, the stability of the slopes of the longlines and sides, as well as the values of the load on the rocks of the base of the dump were calculated. To protect against wind and water erosion, it is envisaged to populate with annual and perennial grasses. After passing a comprehensive examination of the design documentation and obtaining the necessary permits, the company plans to start construction of the northern section of the dump. As part of the construction, they will carry out work on the construction of an earthen wall, provide for the installation of hydrostep wells, trench drainage, storage capacity, external power supply, as well as the reconstruction of the Zapadnaya railway station.
