Various Turkish steel mills have announced production cuts following their counterparts in the EU and other regions as the global coronavirus pandemic continues to rage.
Electric arc furnace-based long steel maker Ekinciler has decided to end production indefinitely from this week.
Another EAF long-haul producer, Siddiq Kardeshler, ceased production on March 19 and gave its workers unlimited paid leave.
Cebitas, which already ceased production in early December 2019, has given its remaining 108 employees a three-month leave.
EAF long steel producer Ege Celik stopped the rolling mill on March 25 for 14 days for maintenance. The company says it has enough material in stock and supplies to customers will continue.
Almost all other Turkish steelmakers are believed to have cut shifts and reduced their capacity utilization.
Reduced production at Turkish factories and lower capacity utilization are expected to result in reduced steel production in Turkey and thus scrap purchases in Turkey.
