Kazakh authorities have announced that coal exports by road will be banned for six months starting August 1.
This is done in order to avoid a situation with a shortage of coal last year. In September last year, due to cold weather, domestic demand for coal was high, which led to a further increase in coal prices. The shortage may be caused by exports.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, last year coal exports to neighboring Uzbekistan increased by 30% to 1.14 million tons. Of these, 1.02 million tons were sent by rail, and 123,000 tons by road.
