As Gazprom cut natural gas supplies to Europe, major German steelmaker Salzgitter is in talks with the regulator, hoping to get exemptions from possible natural gas distribution measures.
In July, Gazprom announced that due to force majeure, natural gas exported by the company to Europe via Nord Stream 1 would be reduced by only one-fifth of the original volume. Several other major steel mills have taken the same approach as Salzgitter, hoping to gain immunity.
Meanwhile, ThyssenKrupp is considering shutting down production due to a recent problem with its natural gas supply.
