According to the European Association of Steel Producers (EUROFER), in the first half of this year, EU finished steel imports amounted to about 16.7 million tons, up 14% year on year. The increase was because the volume of purchases increased in the first quarter and remained stable in the second quarter.
Since the EU imposed sanctions against Russia, shipments from Russia fell by 45% in the first half of the year. At the same time, deliveries from Ukraine also fell by a third due to the fact that Ukrainian factories stopped or reduced production.
At the same time, supplies of finished steel from Turkey and India, which rank first and second among the leading exporters of finished steel to the EU, increased by 10% and 6%, respectively.
