According to Constantin Popescu, president of the Aluministul union, Romanian aluminum producer Alro Slatina is likely to cease operations entirely by May 2023, mainly due to high energy prices.
Currently, only two-fifths of the electrolysis plants are in operation at the plant. However, due to rising energy prices, both power units will also be closed, representatives of the union said.
Some aluminum smelters in Europe have been hit by high energy prices. Some of them have reduced their production capacity and others have closed their factories due to the current high energy prices.
