The government of Kazakhstan planned to extend the ban on the export of scrap metal, but first it will discuss whether this should be done before October 5. If the extension is confirmed, the ban will be extended for another six months to avoid issues such as domestic stock shortages due to scrap metal exports.
Kazakhstan is currently facing a shortage of raw materials, and domestic steel mills report that exports abroad have resulted in local producers being unable to find raw materials or even being forced to import them, driving up costs.
