According to the International Nickel Research Group (INSG), global nickel production is expected to increase from 2.61 Mt in 2021 to 3.04 Mt in 2022 and 3.39 Mt in 2023. The global nickel market will have a surplus of 144,000 tons in 2022 and 171,000 tons in 2023 compared to a deficit of 163,000 tons last year.
INSG predicts that the stainless steel sector will face negative growth this year, but is expected to recover in 2023, while nickel consumption in electric vehicle batteries continues to rise.

China's stainless steel consumption is expected to fall 2.3% year-on-year in 2022, the first year-on-year drop since 2008, according to statistics from the World Stainless Steel Association.
