Rio Tinto to supply BMW Group with low-carbon aluminum

Global mining company Rio Tinto has partnered with German luxury car manufacturer BMW Group to create an innovative new partnership to develop more responsible, resilient, traceable and secure supply chains.

Under the agreement, Rio Tinto will supply the BMW Group with responsibly sourced aluminum from 2024 for its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for use in body components.

Compared to the BMW Group aluminum benchmark, Rio Tinto's low-carbon virgin aluminum produced at the company's hydroelectric power plants in Canada has 70% lower CO2 emissions.
