According to the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), the volume of scrap metal purchases in Ukraine in January this year amounted to about 61 thousand tons, which is 75.6% less than in the same month last year.
During this period, the supply of scrap metal in Ukraine amounted to 49,000 tons, falling by 78% year on year. Exports also fell by almost 57% year on year to 8,300 tons, but there are no imports in this period compared to scrap imports of 1,000 tons in January 2022. UAVtormet expects Ukraine's scrap purchases to reach 820,000-850,000 tons in 2023, while deliveries to domestic steel mills will range from 720,000 to 750,000 tons.
