Metinvest's trading division, Metinvest-SMC, delivered to Ukraine a steel angle made in Poland. Previously, these products were produced at the destroyed Azovstal plant in Mariupol.
Products imported from Poland comply with international standards PN-EN10056-2 PN-EN10025-1 PN-EN10025-2. Corners are available in the following sizes: 160x160x10 for S235JR¸140x140x9 for S275JR or S235JR and 140x140x10 for S235JR.
According to Metivst-SMC, corners are used as elements of metal structures in the construction of buildings and other structures. This product is also widely used in other fields such as shelving, fencing, framing and other steel structures.
“We plan to maintain the constant availability of such goods and the first batch has already been sent to our Distribution Center in the city of Dnipro,” the company added, but did not disclose the name of the Polish manufacturer.
In March, Metinvest-SMC delivered a new batch of Italian hot-rolled thick steel to its steel center in Ternopil, Ukraine (see Callanish passage). The manufacturer of the products is the Italian subsidiary of Metinvest Trametal SPA, which helps Ukrainian buyers with rolled metal, which is currently in short supply, the company claims.
In 2022, Metinvest-SMC arranged imports to Ukraine of more than 4.6 thousand tons of hot-rolled steel and heavy plate in short supply from its assets in Italy (see Kallanish passim). The company also supplied cold-rolled coil for the Chernihiv plant Doors Bulat.
However, unlike Italy, Metinvest does not have steel production in Poland.
Traditionally, before the start of the war in Ukraine, the destroyed Mariupol plants of Metinvest supplied the Italian market with thick plate and hot-rolled coil, as well as slab for rolling at their Italian plants.
Currently, the majority of Metinvest Group's enterprises in Ukraine operate at less than 50% of their capacity (see Kallanish passim).
At Metinvest, steel production in 2022 decreased by 69% year-on-year to 2.92 million tons, while pig iron production fell by 72% to 2.74 million tons amid the war.
