In the first four months of 2023, crude steel production in Ukraine decreased by 46% year-on-year to about 1.81 million tonnes. At the same time, Zaporizhstal, Ukraine's fourth-largest smelter and part of the Metinvest Group, produced around 647,000 tons of steel, down 10.3% year-on-year.
After the Russo-Ukrainian war broke out last February, Ukrainian logistics were interrupted, and steel production and sales in Ukraine plummeted. The work of two leading Ukrainian metallurgical plants, Azovstal and MMK im. Ilyich in Mariupol.
In April, steel production in Ukraine amounted to 574,000 tons, up slightly by 8.9% compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, iron production in April increased by 16.7% compared to the previous month and amounted to about 544 thousand tons.
