Duisburg-based Knauf Interfer said it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with steelmaker thyssenkrupp regarding the procurement of green steel.
Under the agreement, from this year thyssenkrupp will supply CO2-reduced steel using specially treated scrap under thyssenkrupp's bluemint® recycled steel brand.
In addition, from the end of 2026, Knauf Interfer will also source bluemint® steel from ThyssenKrupp's hydrogen-based direct reduction plants.
Compared to the traditional blast furnace process, thyssenkrupp bluemint® recycled steel has 64% lower CO2 emissions.
