According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production in May was 161.6 million tonnes, down 0.2% from the previous month and down 5% from last year.
Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached nearly 120 million tons, down 6% from last year, of which China's production was 90 million tons, down 7.3% from last year. Crude steel production in the EU-27 was 11.6 million tonnes, down 11.2% year on year.
Meanwhile, crude steel production in North America was 9.6 million tons, down 3.7% year on year; Production in South America was 3.6 million tonnes, down 5.2% year on year.
Crude steel production in Africa rose 18.6% year on year to 1.3 million tons, while production in the Middle East rose 4.3% year on year to 4.4 million tons.
In the first five months of this year, global crude steel production was 786 million tonnes, down 1.2% from last year.
