Turkish flat steel and profile steel maker Toscelik plans to build a 100,000-tonne-per-year zinc processing plant, according to a document submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on August 16.
The plant will be built in Osmaniye in southeastern Turkey, home to EAF-based steelmaker Toscelik, a subsidiary of Tosyali Holding, one of Turkey's largest steel producers.
The plant, designed to produce zinc using recycled EAF dust, will help protect the environment and create additional value for the Turkish economy, the company said.
The object is planned to be put into operation within 24 months.
The total production capacity of Toscelik is 2 million tons of steel per year.
Weak demand in both the domestic and export markets in recent months has put pressure on steel prices from Turkish mills.
Platts last quoted Turkish hot-rolled ex-works on August 11 at $660/t, a stable weekly level but $20/t lower than in early July, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights.
