Rebar Fastmarkets weekly valuation of steel rebar (rebar) in the domestic market, without delivery to Poland, was PLN 2630-2650 (USD 637-642) per ton and has not changed since August 18.
There was still limited trading in the Polish rebar market and sources did not expect prices to recover in September.
Local producers have been reported to be cutting production to balance supply and demand, but industry sources doubt this will help support prices.
Fastmarkets weekly assessment of steel rod (drawing quality), domestically produced, delivered to Poland, was PLN 2750-2800 per ton on Friday, which is stable compared to the week.
The estimate was based on several transactions reported at PLN 2750-2760 per tonne CPT, as well as offers from local mills at PLN 2800 per tonne CPT.
Producers in Poland are considering raising offer prices for September, sources said, but nothing has been officially announced yet.
Market participants believed that there was no room for price increases in the wire rod market, given the continued low demand.
Proposals for importing wire rod to Poland were limited due to holidays. European suppliers were expected to return to the market with new offerings next week.
One Ukrainian supplier offered net quality wire rod at a price of 570-585 euros (618-634 US dollars) per ton from stock, depending on the tonnage.
At the same time, one of the sources said that another Ukrainian supplier was offering wire rod at a price of about 530 euros per tonne of DAP, which would total about 560-565 euros per tonne of CPT.
