Spanish steel output rose 22% year-on-year in November 2023 to 1.06 million tonnes, bringing underlying production to an eight-month high, data from steel group Unesid showed on January 10.
Output in the 12 months to November was 11.3 million tonnes, the highest since March 2023, although still slightly above the post-pandemic low of 10.8 million tonnes reached in July 2023.
Scrap recycling volumes in Spain also increased in November, rising 16% year on year to 878,000 tonnes, Unesid said.
This figure was an eight-month record, as was the 12-month volume, which reached 9.15 million tons.
Spain is Europe's fourth largest steel producer after Germany, Italy and France, with a capacity of almost 23 million tons per year.
